FPL Vibes Prize League Roundup – January

Another month has ended in the Fantasy Premier League game and with it comes another monthly winner in the FPL Vibes Prize League. The January month sees manager Alon Cooper with his team AC Gunners FC cop his second monthly prize for the season. For his choice of jersey, Alon has selected an Arsenal Home Youth Kit with Custom Name and Number  from our official kit supplier Red Mango Kits.

Alon enjoyed a rewarding January as his late charge also saw him finish 2nd in the ICEBOX Fantasy League earning himself 2 coveted tickets to the Suits Breakfast Party on Carnival Saturday. In the overall standings, Alon sits in third place while  manager Vivek Bissoon with Five by Five FC maintains first place ahead of Robert Simmons – TangentMan4Eva FC in second. The race is heating up as managers buckle down with 14 gameweeks left in the season. Let us now take an in depth look at Alon’s tactics in January.

In Gameweek 20, Alon brought in Gerrard for Silva and started off relatively slowly with a modest 48 points.  High men were captain Suarez(12), Walcott (11), the ever dependable Yaya Toure (7) and Hazard with (6).  For Gameweek 21, Alon brought in Eriksen and Coleman for suspended Debuchy and injured Walcott and reaped an impressive 73 points. Key performers this week were the automatic captain Suarez (26), Eriksen (9), Gerrard (9), Hazard (8) and Dzeko (7).  In gameweek 22, Alon made one change bringing in the returning Aguero for the injured Rooney and he repeated the trick with another 73 point haul. Main protagonists this time around were Yaya Toure (13), Aguero (10), captain Suarez (10), Dzeko (7) and Gerrard (7) supplemented by clean sheets from Mertesacker and Ward.

Going into the final gameweek of January with all wildcards having been utilized, the race was too close to call with no fewer than 10 Prize League managers in with a viable shout for the monthly prize. For this gameweek, Alon made 3 transfers bringing in Mata, Cahill and Gnabry for Gerrard, Ward Prowse and the injured Coleman. Alon came from behind with a superb 88 point haul that propelled him to the win a mere 5 points ahead of his nearest competitor, Manuvelona managed by FPL Vibes contributor Darryl Celestine. Main contributors to the cause were captain Suarez (22), Dzeko (15), Mannone (11), Ward (8), Cahill (7), Mata (6) and Yaya Toure (6).

Alon’s canny move to play Dzeko as a differential throughout January whilst Negredo and Aguero lost game time through paid dividends. It shows that coming off the wildcard with many similar teams and with Suarez being an automatic captain choice, differentials are key to upward progression in the FPL game. With a double gameweek already confirmed for gameweek 31 and more twists to follow, there is much opportunity for managers to use strategy to forge ahead in their leagues.

Can you feel the vibes?
