The end of a month of festivities in Trinidad and Tobago also brings us another monthly winner in the FPL Vibes Prize League. Rene Ribeiro with his team BESBRAHN FC is the winner of the monthly prize for February. For his choice of jersey, Rene has selected a Borussia Dortmund Away Kit, Hummels #5 from our official kit supplier Red Mango Kits.
Rene was the overall winner of the FPL Vibes Prize League last season and it seems like he has turned on the gas as his superb months launches him to 4th place in the overall standings. Occupying first place is Robert Simmons with TangentMan4Eva FC while manager Nigel Smith with Trini Red Devils sits in second. Vivek Bissoon with Five by Five FC slips to 3rd place and the top5 is rounded out by Alon Cooper with AC Gunners FC. Ten gameweeks left as we are now firmly in the business end of the season. Now for a more in depth look at Rene’s tactics in January.
In Gameweek 24, “Ribs” replaced the injured pair of Aguero and Coleman with Van Persie and Collins and started off with a solid 63 points. High men were Lallana (10) , Johnson (8), Van Persie (7), Koscielney (8), Boruc (7) and Collins (7). Rene then banked his transfers for Gameweek 25 and garnered another solid 66 points. High men this time were Hattrick Hazard (21), Adebayor (8), Collins (7) and captain RVP (12).
Gameweek 26 however would prove to be crucial as a slew of cancelled fixtures resulted in a blighted round. While many managers suffered the fate of missing players, Rene benefited handsomely recording a monstrous 91 points from his active 11 players. Key performers were Adebayor (16), Sturridge (15), Collins (15), Ivanovic (10), Koscielney (9) and Boruc (8). Happy enough with his troops, Rene decided on no transfers for last February gameweek 27 and again came up trumps again with a massive 86 point haul. Star men this time were captain Sturridge (32), Nolan (12), Koscielney (13), Williamson (7) and Ivanovic (7). Huge back to back scores were enough to steer BESBRAHN FC well clear of his nearest challengers.
While being on the right side of the fixtures in gameweek 26 undoubtedly played a key part in the destination of the prize league this month, Rene’s excellent decision making was also noteworthy. Timing the succession of West Ham clean sheets, doubling up on Liverpool’s SaS front line and going with Sturridge cap over the more fancied Suarez in the last gameweek were just a few of the decisions that propelled him forward. It shows that luck as much as strategy play key parts in this game.
As the season draws to a climax, Fantasy Managers are presented with impending double gameweeks, fixture congestion and title and relegation battles; all challenges and opportunities that leave the door open for success in the prize league.
Can you feel the vibes?
